Application

APPLICATION PROCESS

Ask Japanese Diplomatic Establishment for a Recommendation To apply, you will first need to receive a recommendation from a Japanese diplomatic establishment (embassy, consulate, or permanent mission). There is no need to secure a letter, as the recommendation will be conveyed directly to the project secretariat.

Submit Your Application to the Secretariat Applicants who have secured a recommendation from a Japanese diplomatic establishment in their country or region will be contacted directly by the secretariat and provided with application details, including a link to the online application form. Prepare all required information ready before starting the online application process and submit it online.
*The secretariat will cover book and shipping costs. Applicants are asked to bear import duties, VAT, and other charges incurred locally.

Screening by the Secretariat The completed applications will be screened by the secretariat. Due to budget limitations, the secretariat may limit the number of books shipped. It also reserves the right to give priority to certain countries or institutions (such as a newly established department of Japanese studies in need of resources). Applicants can provide additional information in the application form.

Approval Notice and Shipment Institutions whose applications have been approved will be notified by the secretariat and provided with shipping details. *The entire process from application, screening, and approval to shipment normally takes four to five months. Applicants can check for updates on the READ JAPAN PROJECT website.

CALL FOR APPLICATIONS

The project provides Japan-related, English-language books each year on an application basis. Applications can be submitted only by institutions that have been recommended by a Japanese diplomatic establishment, so all interested parties should first secure a recommendation.
