From October 4 to 11, 2024, Riaki Tanaka of the READ JAPAN PROJECT secretariat visited four university libraries in the Balkan region to learn how the donated books were being used and to interview recipients about the book donation project.

The universities visited were Sofia University “St. Kliment Ohridski” in Bulgaria; Ss. Cyril and Methodius University in Skopje, North Macedonia; University of Prishtina in Kosovo; and AAB College, also in Kosovo.

The READ JAPAN PROJECT secretariat is very grateful for the warm welcome at all four universities and was heartened by the enthusiasm shown for Japanese culture among both the faculty and students. We will continue to promote a better understanding of Japan through book donations.
